Listed on the National Historic Landmark Register, The Golden Gilpin Mill first milled ore in the 1860’s as part of the original Colorado Gold Rush. Once a mill in a town of mills, The Golden Gilpin is the last standing mill in Central City and Black Hawk. Black Hawk, during the Central City Mining District heydey, was known as the “City of Mills.” Over 31 mills in Black Hawk serviced the mines in the area.
The current building, built in 1932, is under extensive rehabilitation. Once completed, it will be able to process seventy tons of ore per day from the Bates Hunter and Clay County Mines.
